We were appointed to design new offices for the Co-operative, to be built at the same time as a large new-build housing project designed by the practice on an adjoining site. Economies of scale would help the Co-op to keep down costs this way. Because of prospective stock transfers in the area, the client expected to increase the staff numbers in the near future, which meant providing additional space, but at low cost. The building’s location was chosen for its prominence, and the brief called for a strikingly modern design. Models – card and CAD - were used to help the users in the planning process. The contractor was Cruden Building & Renewals Ltd.
