FBN have carried out a feasability study to the site of the former Quarrybrae Primary School. The school lies at a transitional point between the high-density urban condition of Tollcross road and the suburban backdrop to Tollcross Park. FBNs proposed layout of the site aims to enhance this urban grain and mediate between these 2 very different contexts. A three storey zinc clad block flanks Crail street on the sites Western boundary, reinstating the fractured street edge and providing a dynamic contemporary face for the development.
A sense of place is fostered within the site by a simple arrangement of terraced housing around a common greenspace. The language of the development is simple yet thoroughly modern, aiming to harmonise with the surrounding context. The form of the building is derived from surrounding typologies of simple pitched roofed structures.
